Bravery

Today I did something SO brave.  Something so incredibly brave you might not even believe me.

I went to cycle.  ALONE.

Holy moly, give me some props please.

As a general rule that I made for myself  (the time I threw up 8 minutes after class started), I don’t go to any sort of group fitness classes alone.  I am socially awkward at the gym and feel like an idiot when I take classes.  But, today, being the big girl I am, broke the rule.

And I am starting to really like cycle.  A lot.  A lot, a lot, a lot, a lot, a lot.  I really like the instructor on Wednesday nights because she’s super positive and talks the whole time and I weirdly like following directions from someone else other than myself (just ask my kiddos, it gets old).   And, I was sweating so much that mascara was running down my face and I was dripping and it was great.

So, I think this is going to become my new Wednesday night thing.  My thing with the PiC if she stops ditching me for free amazing meals.  It’s a nice break from running, although today I did run 3 miles before class started and definitely was feeling it during class, but it was a great feeling.  It’s nice to know I’m spending 60 minutes doing some hard cardio using different muscles.

It’s been really kind of nasty here today (although it’s been nearly 70 degrees, which I will not ever complain about), but today on the way home in a short rain break, I saw this little tiny gem poking through the clouds.

rainbow

Okay, so I really swear there’s a tiny little rainbow poking through right there.

That kind of brightened my day, in a small, weird, little way.

When I finally got home, I finally got some couch time.  I’m really not sure how couch time works when you’re a parent, but right now, it’s sometimes the best part of my day.

I read in Shape (part of my outstanding couch time today) that 13% of Americans pretend to talk on their cell phone so they don’t have to talk to people.

I do this often.  Especially when I enter a store where the salespeople latch onto you like white on rice (I never really got that saying, but I’m pretty sure it works here).

Does anyone else do this?  Have you ever been part of the 13% of Americans that pretend to talk on their phones so they don’t have to make awkward conversation?

As I type this, I realize how strange this might make me seem.

Interesting breakthrough, Kathy.

Someone else REALLY needs to start commenting first lol. Beyond that….I’m laughing me arse off because I thought I was a wierdy for doing that haaahaahhaaaaa I do it all the time when I’m in the mall and the weird dead sea people approach u with new and crazy inventive goops to rub feverishly on your unwilling hand insisting u must buy some. Yes I’m aware that was a run on sentence, teach. So no, you’re not alone. And mad kudos on the spin class! I hate em haha!

  2. Yay! I went to spin tonight too but my instructor was no bueno. I think I’m sticking to other nights, but I LOVE spin!!

I do that all the time with my phone, especially if there are those solicitor people hanging out at the grocery store. I’m always worried it’s gonna ring in the middle of my pretend conversation 🙂

    • Omg I never hougt about it actually ringing…and that is now a fear of mine.
Are you proud of me? I’m loving spin… Now all I need is to swim and maybe then ill get into tris! 🙂

Hooray for a new cycle convert! Please invite me next time you go! I’ll impress you with my fancy schmancy shoes!!!! haha Nerd alert.

  4. My New Years resolution is to take a spin class. Way to go Lady! I hate going to the gym solo for all the reasons that you listed, but I am hoping to buck up and just do it now that I am starting Marathon training.

Guilty of ‘fake talking’ to get out of talking with someone else! I am surprised that only 13% do this…it’s such a great, effective trick!

  5. I loooove me some spin. My goal for the new year is to find a gym with spin classes STAT. My current gym is really inexpensive so they don’t have them.

I need to try this cell phone thing. Usually I just pretend I don’t see people or that I’m distracted. If we ever meet, and you are on your phone, I will remember this post.

    • I just read on HRG that spinning is good for marathon training.. hmm? Interesting connection, but if it makes me faster, than I’ll do it!

If I’m talking on a phone when I meet you, it’s just because I want you to think I have friends outside of the internet. Now, if I’m obviously avoiding eye contact as well, then you just got shunned.
