It’s true.

Tim Tebow is actually Jesus…or at the very least Tim is on par with both Jesus and Noah.

Body Step Misstep

Let’s play a little catch up.

Wednesday

Someone… his nickname starts with an f and ends with an –ave… gave me his terrible fever, even after I’d been so nice to him all day Tuesday and made him homemade soup.  I was basically the best girlfriend ever, and in return I got a fever.

So Wednesday was an unexpected off day.  And bed day.  And do absolutely nothing day.

It was actually pretty miserable, unfortunately.  It hurt to put anything on my body- clothes, blankets, you name it.  I also barely ate anything (hey new strategy for weight loss!) all day, so I was weak and whiny and cranky.

Perfect.

Thursday

Guess who had to work yesterday?  This girl.

Luckily (I guess) my fever was gone so I headed into school for our summer school planning day.  Super fun.

Every year I ask myself… is this worth my time?  IS IT?  And every year I keep coming back because I neeeeeeeeeeed money.

You and me both, Annie.

After work I headed to the gym.  I think people overuse the phrase “epic fail” so I’d rather not use it in this instance, but I believe it’s necessary.

It was an epic fail.

First, it literally took all of my energy and power to run three measly miles.  I could barely breathe, my legs felt like enormous tons of lead.

Then, I had already talked my PiC into going to a Body Step Express class.  Um.   From my past experiences of tripping, falling, spraining my ankle, etc, I should have known that a class that consists solely of jumping on and around a box with weird hand motions would not be for me.

The class is only 45 minutes long.  I made it 15 minutes before I gave PiC the look.

And then we left.  30 minutes early.  Like enormous losers.

As we left, we decided that there must be some sort of secret society where all the body step people learn the moves… because we were the ooooonly ones that didn’t know what we were doing.

And now I know I never will be doing another Body Step class.  Ever.

The end.

Three Things Thursday Weight Loss Edition

1.  Look what cutting out 3lbs of butter per day can do to a person.

Paula Deen: How I Lost 30 Lbs. | Paula Deen

Hey, hottie!

One of Paula’s tips to lose weight is to not have mashed taters at every meal… maybe a little baked fish or salad.

Huh.  I think I’m going to try that.  Thanks, Paula!

Do you think Paula misses her daily butter dose?

2.  Speaking of weight loss, if you’ve been watching Real Housewives of New Jersey (those craaaaaaaaaaaazy yet entertaining bit**es), you know Lauren Manzo (she’s 24) has been struggling all season to lose weight.   She was on some weird egg white drink diet and some other restrictive food diets, but didn’t seem to lose any weight.  The fact that her family basically made fun of her every time she ate probably didn’t help, but that’s for another post.

Anyway, apparently Lauren got the lap band surgery (her dad has had it done as well), which is basically silicone that is placed around the stomach to make it smaller.  It’s not as invasive as gastric bypass, but it’s still surgery.  She’s lost about 30 lbs so far, and looks great, but I guess I’m wondering- would you have the lap band surgery if you were needing to lose just 30-40 lbs?

3.  Lastly, lately I’ve been watching episodes of The Weight of the Nation on my Kindle Fire (it’s free under TV extras, btw), and the stats are incredibly amazing and depressing.

Nearly 70% of adults in the United States are overweight or obese today and something like 20% of kids are obese (not just overweight).

It’s honestly one of the most heartbreaking and informative shows I’ve ever seen.

Adults need to be getting 150 minutes of exercise per week, while kids should be getting 60 minutes of exercise per DAY.

(The average kid is watching/ playing 7.5 hours of media per day….)

The consequences that come along with being overweight are severe- kidney disease, diabetes, heart problems including heard disease and high blood pressure.. the list goes on.

It’s astounding to me that some people don’t even realize that they’re doing themselves a disservice by drinking 3 sweet iced teas per day (hello 230 calories each!), or sodas (suuuuuuuugar high), or feasting on fast food nearly everyday.

Do you watch what you eat?  Are you aware of your calorie intake and output?

Hello, ER

Workouts this week:

Sunday:  Drink beer, boat, hold baby

Monday: 6 miles, fence jumping

Tuesday: 5 miles outside in amazingly comfortable weather, strength with my personal trainer, Jillian Michaels

I had planned on going to a body pump class yesterday afternoon (remember, I’m trying to get muscles this summer… plus, my PiC and I have an incentive program for classes at the gym…. 2x/week for 3 weeks = beach day!), but instead, I spent the majority of my day in this place.

er

Retreat Hospital’s Emergency Room.   Thanks for being so close…like, a block away close.

The fave got sick after kickball Monday night, and spent the evening in pure misery..so unfortunately an ER visit was necessary yesterday.  Anyway, after spending about 4 hours listening to machines beeping and getting some painkillers for one non life threatening illness, we headed home where I played nursemaid.

Nursemaids make chicken noodle soup, right?

chicken noodle

Not my picture, but you get the point.  Homemade soup, lots of rest and water and a couple of episodes of Hell’s Kitchen make for a lazy evening.

Speaking of Hell’s Kitchen, does anyone watch?

I couldn’t find a clip of her speaking, but seriously, wtf is wrong with Robyn when she speaks?  Her entire mouth changes shape when she’s complaining about everyone else… it’s the strangest thing.  And she’s so mean… just a mean girl.

robyn hells kitchen

A mean girl who happens to like shaving her head and wearing two very different earrings and hating every other person on the show… but still a mean girl.  She probably would not have fit in with this crowd.

I still could watch this movie every single day and laugh the entire time.  I don’t know if that makes me cool or pathetic… but I’m going with the latter.

Do you love or hate the above movie?

L.O.V.E.  I think it’s obvious.

Any interesting stories about being in the ER?

One time when I went to the ER with Dru for another non-life threatening injury, we listened to a drunk homeless woman try and get prescription painkillers out of the doctors.  Her reasoning behind why she should get drugs literally made me laugh for days thinking about it.

I’ve been busy.

This past weekend I headed to Connecticut for the fave’s nephew’s christening.  We got back Monday afternoon, headed to kickball, and crashed.

Needless to say, I’m tired.  Traveling makes me stressed and irritable and sleepy.

Luckily, the weather was gorgeous, the christening went off without a hitch, and although it was a very busy and fast weekend, we had fun with the fave’s family.

Oh, and I got my first iced coffee of the year.

Anyway, like I mentioned last week, I spent most of the week working on a secret project for the fave, who was at training for work all week in Michigan.

I decided that since his office was “the pit where everything that doesn’t have a home seems to end up” it needed a little facelift.  I’m sparing you (and him) of the before pictures, mainly because I didn’t take any good ones but also because it was a bit embarrassing.

Here are the after:

office 1q

office 2

office 3

office 4            office 5

What I did:

  • Painted the walls a light blue (Dewdrop- Valspar from Lowes)— They were an old peachy pink color.
  • Hung pictures, including a bunch of old (like 1940’s) 3×5 postcards of Richmond landmarks that my dad found at a garage sale a long time ago.  They’re beautiful little drawings of the monuments, U of R, and famous older buildings around town.
  • Hung a new ceiling fan- Okay, I didn’t actually do the hanging (thank God for Dru and Toast), but I picked out and purchased a new one.  I also drank margs and provided moral support while it was being hung.  This was a feat in itself- 100 year old homes are not wired to use modern fans, so it took for-ev-er.
  • Bought  new rug (looooooooove Garden Ridge!), which I thought the fave would find too busy, but he ended up really liking it a lot.
  • Rearranged all the furniture—Next up is a new desk, but that’s out of my teacher budget.

It was definitely a four day project, the biggest part being the painting (which I decided I hated about 20 minutes in) and changing the ceiling fan.

Whew.  I’m tired just thinking about all the work it took to get the office presentable.  I also am shocked I was able to keep a secret from the fave for almost a week.  I am like a talking bird when it comes to surprises… I caaaaaaaaaannot keep them.

Anyway, last night Dicken Cider had it’s fourth kickball game of the season, which resulted in our fourth win.  It was a close game, but we pulled through.

I was supposed to mention that I had to jump the chain link fence in the ghetto to get a foul ball four different times, but unfortunately I’m not sure how to make that funny.  I hooked a foot and hopped on over, no biggie coming from a girl who climbed many a chain link fences in her heyday… thanks, mom and dad for never getting rid of that sucker.  Otherwise Dicken Cider might have been in a bad spot last night.

chain link fence

There you go.  Funny.

How much do you love (or hate) painting?

I always think I love painting… and then I start painting, remember why I hate it, and it ends up being a terrible experience.  Every.time.

Is anyone else a product of a home with chain link fences?

Random! (Plus a new recipe!)

Yesterday was a busy Thursday.   You’d think being off of work for the summer would mean a lot of lying around doing absolutely nothing, but this week I’ve been working like a madwoman trying to finish the secret project for the fave before he gets home.

Thursday’s workout:  3 mile run, body pump class with Dru

The morning run was miz.  I didn’t sleep at all on Wednesday night, so being up early for a workout was tough.  After complaining most of the run, I headed to body pump with Dru.  I’m not as sore (yet) as I was on Tuesday after body pump, so maybe it means my muscles aren’t as weak as they were two days ago?  Or maybe it means I wasn’t working as hard?  Either way, I figure if I try and keep this up a couple of times a week this summer I’ll have some serious guns by August.

After our workout, Dru and I headed to breakfast at Lamplighter, one of those all natural, healthy, sometimes vegan places.  Anyway, whenever I go there, I notice that a lot of the people who frequent Lamplighter have beards, mustaches, overalls, etc.  Okay, not strange.

It is strange, though, when you try and match your car to your face.

mustache car

A mustache.  On a car.

A mustache on a car.

I’ve seen it all.   I’m going to have to find a spot in the license plate book for this one… Maybe a category like: “Dressed-Up Cars” or something.

Can we also talk about the NOTPORQ license plate?  So many good things in this picture.

Later in the day/ morning (because when you get up before 5 you get all your errands done EARLY), I was doing a little shopping for my secret project and I came across this scary number.

scary lep
Scariest home decor I’ve ever seen.  This isn’t a 2 inch little statue either..it was at last 2 feet tall and something that nightmares are made from.

Any ideas as to where people put this thing?  Do you put it in the living room when you’ve got guests as a conversation piece?  On the front porch as a warning to thieves saying, “Don’t break into my house.  Look at the scary crap I have…you will never, ever need this.”

Anyway.

After pretending to put together something electronic, I gave up and decided I am not and will never be handy.  Or able to understand instruction manuals that just infer the directions.   It wore me out so I decided to sit on the couch and eat instead.  Typical.

Avocado Chicken Salad (Thanks for the idea, Judo!)

  • 1 large can of cooked chicken breast (drained) OR one boiled chicken breast (shredded)
  • 1 small avocado
  • 1/2 cup nonfat plain Greek yogurt
  • lemon juice
  • salt/ pepper
  • dill

1.  Mash avocado with Greek yogurt until creamy.  Add chicken and mix together.

2.  Season to taste with lemon juice, salt, pepper and dill.  Done!

avocado chicken salad

This may be my new favorite lunch…so easy to make and so delicious.

And then I was full so I took a nap.  The end.

Has anyone else ever seen a mustache on a car?

Do you have scary garden gnomes/ banana eating monkey statues at your house?

Three Things Thursday

1.  Wednesday’s Workout:  3 mile run aka 3 mile melt, 35 minutes on the elliptical

I hadn’t planned on working out yesterday because I was SO SORE ( I even  had to wake up in the middle of the night to stretch my body) from body pump and working on the fave’s secret surprise.  But, I thought maybe if I did something / anything that involved moving it would loosen my muscles and I’d end up feeling better.  It wasn’t terrible, although I felt like my legs were lead balls the entire time.

What was actually terrible was the run home from the gym… holy baby cheeses it was hot outside.  Not only hot, but humid like no other.   Is it ever going to be nice outside again?

sweating

Yep.

2.  Is it me or could they be related?

mugshots

On the left:  George Zimmerman’s embezzling wife.

On the right:  Teen mom extraordinaire and drug addict and spouse abuser, Amber.

Thoughts?

3.  I found something I’d like for my one year blogiversary   on July 19, hint hint hint anyone.

intoxicase

This is the iphone 4 ‘intoxicase’.  Beer opener, phone protector…what more could you ever need?  Maybe that Corona too.

**Side note:   I’d also need someone to get me an iphone 4.  Or iphone 4s.

Does anyone live in a cool (meaning both cold and awesome) place I could come visit them while the humidity rages on in Richmond?
