Fall TV!

Tuesday’s workout: 2 mile run, 17 minutes; early morning body pump class

When I woke up yesterday I was UP!  And then I got to the gym and ran for 17 minutes and I was soooooooooo tired.   And therefore body pump became h.a.r.d.  It felt great to get my workout done by 7am though, so that’s a plus!


So the other day when I was at the gym I watched the series premier of Nashville on ABC.  Connie Britton is an aging country music singer trying to keep her stardom in a young Hayden Panettiere world.   So far it’s a great show with great music- but I love country music so of course I’m going to have no complaints.  The two girls that play Connie Britton’s daughters are sisters Lennon and Maisy Stella.  This is them below- they have such pretty voices for young girls. 

Nashville airs today at 10 on ABC.

Another show I’ve recently mentioned that I like is Chicago Fire.  Sure they go save people and buildings and cats from fires… but they’re not too terrible to look at either.

Plus Steve from Sex and the City is in it… and he’s always cute.  Chicago Fire premiers today at 10 on NBC. 

Also, my other new show that I’m loving is The New Normal.  A gay couple is having a baby through a surrogate, but her family doesn’t necessarily approve.   The jokes are kind of Modern Family-ish, plus Nene from RHOA is on it, and she’s always a character.

This has already started, and it’s on Tuesdays at 9:30 on NBC.


And of course there are the oldies but goodies- Parenthood, Dexter, Homeland, Modern Family and The Office.  Sooooo yes, I watch too much TV.  Luckily most of it is on the treadmill at the gym… so that kind of counteracts all the negative things TV brings to life, right?


Am I missing anything good??

I have the first episode of Vegas on my kindle for my next treadmill run, but I have no clue what it’s about.  It was free…and I like free stuff.

It’s already Monday?

Sunday’s workout:  6 mile run, 53 minutes.  Nothing special about this run, although I did get to watch the pilot of Nashville on my Kindle…and I really like it.  It kept me entertained for 42 minutes and included good music and slutty Hayden Panettiere and romance and politics.  What more does a show need?

1.  I ended last week with 27 miles.  Not amazing, but not terrible considering I didn’t run for 3 days.  I only made it to one body pump class and I felt weaker than ever.   Goal for this week- at least 25 miles and 2 body pumps. 

2.  The fave and  I finally watched the season premiers of Homeland and Dexter this weekend.  Holy sweet heaven…Dexter was sooooo good.  My hands were sweaty the entire show and I’m pretty sure I drank a bottle of wine in the hour. 

(I’m blaming my nerves for the wine.   I’m actually getting nervous just thinking about it right now…might be time for another glass.)

3.  Derby found a new plaything this weekend. 

A tampon. 

Don’t worry, it’s unused.


When I came home Saturday a chewed up tampon wrapper was in the middle of the room (tampon still inside).  I used to throw her mouse to her and say, “Go get that dirty ol’ mouse, Derby”, so I guess I’ll have to change it to “Go get that dirty ol’ tampon, Derby”…although it has kind of a gross ring to it. 

Luckily, she’s getting exercise while trying to capture the dirty ol’ tampon, so whatever.  If she loses weight by chasing a tampon around the apartment, then so be it. 

4.  I had grand plans to make delicious chicken enchiladas Saturday night for dinner.  The fave requested ‘some sort of bean dip’ first, so I made my healthy take on 7 layer dip- beans, taco mix, greek yogurt, salsa, veggies, and cheese.

And then that became dinner.

Healthy eating at it’s finest around here.

5.  Fall is currently residing in Richmond.  Yesterday it was like 55 degrees and cloudy and rainy.   What happened to the awesome fall weather, like 60’s and crisp and sunny? 

I’m hoping the dreary weather heads on out soon, because indoor recess is not exactly something that gets me excited.

6.  Congrats to my friend Robin for running the Chicago Marathon this weekend!  You inspired me to drag my a$$ to the gym for 53 minutes.  Thank you.

Things Going On

Sunday’s workout:  10 mile run!!!!! plus abs

I was feeling a long run yesterday… I’ve kind of been craving them lately.  Weird, right?  Plus, it was absolutely amazing outside, and I couldn’t pass up an outside run.  So, I did 4 outside before heading to the gym with the fave where I finished up with 6 more.  It took a little less than an hour and  a half I think, and I felt good and strong and better than I have in a long time.


1.  Last week I was tired.  Really, really tired.  So I didn’t blog much.  Six year olds are energetic and they make me exhausted. 

2.  Last week, even though I woke up at 4am for no reason a couple of mornings, I made it to body pump twice and ran 25 miles for the week.  Not great, but it works.

3.  This weekend I forced my favorite person in the whole world to go apple picking with me. 

And that is how I know he actually loves me.


It wasn’t the prettiest day ever, but we had fun… me picking apples, him following behind, holding my loot.  blossomsapplesmountain1 And then I bought 11 lbs of apples.  And an apple pie, which was (all gone) delicious, btw.

4.  We watched Arbitrage with Richard Gere on Saturday night.

For once, I didn’t fall asleep while watching a movie the fave picked.  It was pretty good, buuuuuuuuuuuuut then it just ended.   And I want to know what happened next!

5.  I spilled red wine on white carpet (and cream couch), again.  Luckily, it was not someone else’s mom’s white carpet, it was ours.  Also luckily, it came out with a little Resolve and everyone still liked each other. 

6.  Homeland and Dexter are back!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!


But please don’t tell me what happened… I didn’t watch them last night.  The Eagles game took over the TV instead.

7.  I believe the two 1000mg tablets of vitamin C I took each day saved me from both colds and pink eye this past week. 


That’s all I’ve got.

Hopefully this whole “waking up in the dead of night for an hour” nonsense will be done with this week.

Three Things Thursday

1.  Guess who lost 7 ounces over two years?!?!?!


This little boo bear!!  Go Derby!  We are now down to 15 lbs 4 oz!  It only took two years, two different automatic feeders, and a little crack down on the bag chewing…

Is it weird I feel really bad posting this picture of her on the Internet?  It’s just a bad angle guys, I swear she doesn’t look that big in real life.  I swear.  


2.  Raise your hand if you are going to watch the show, Married to Jonas?  Now slap yourself in the face. 

It’s the new reality show that follows Danielle and Kevin Jonas…no?

Okay, well basically it’s a Newlyweds (sigh) spinoff with the Jonas’.  Sounds interesting. 

Danielle says, “I just feel like this made us communicate more, and I think that’s important in our relationship and keeps it strong.”

Um.  Let’s take a little look back at all the marriages that reality TV have ‘helped’. 

I’m actually still sad about that one.

The following, not so much.


Bottom line:  Reality shows make your marriage last.  For-ev-er.


3. Speaking of TV, lately the fave and I have been getting into American Horror Story. 

I feel like a wimp when I watch this show. 

It is Scary, capital S.  I mean, is everyone dead?  Is the family dead?  Why can they see all the dead people?  I’m so confused and so scared and so entertained at the same time. 

I love it.

Speaking of dead cheerleader (see above), I really wish I could share with you my dead cheerleader Halloween costume in college.  Boy was I gross.  Everyone else went slutty… I went… dead.


Do you watch American Horror?  Do you love it as much as I do?

Any tricks to get Derbs a half a pound skinnier? Exercising is out of the question… and so is taking away more food.  Get creative.
