Impulse Buys at Target

Monday’s workout:  4 mile run, 30 minutes on the elliptical

I had yet another headache after school, and I couldn’t seem to make up my mind about what I wanted to do.  So, I did 2 miles, 30 on the elliptical, and then another 2 miles.  It was just one of those days where nothing felt fun.

Tuesday’s workout:  2 mile run, early morning body pump class

I’m trying to actually get my 2 body pump classes in this week (since school started I’ve only managed 1 per week), so an early wake up call was in order yesterday.  It felt great to get it all done before 7am…because there is no way I would have gone after work.

Yesterday was a rough day.  Rough.  Let’s just say it involved a student, a fire department,  and a false alarm.  I wasn’t amused.

So, how do I make myself feel better?

Go.to.Target.

I went for 3 specific things.

I ended up buying a few more…of course.

Obviously…

wine
Then the candy aisle happened.  I went in for Halloween candy and came out with 2 lbs of Swedish Fish.   Not totally shocking.

swedish fish

This candle made me happy, and even though it’s not Yankee Candle it still smells delicious.

Oops.  Got this too.  Essie Sand Tropez.

nail polish

And I was starving by the time I checked out so these got added to the mix.

goldfish

I’ll be honest.  On the way home I was so hungry I was conflicted between the goldfish and the swedish fish.   I tried opening the candy first, but I think for some reason they make it so you need scissors…  That meant not eating a pound of sugar on the 3 mile drive home.   Instead, I ate half of the crackers.  Half.

Just call me Derby.

Magic Cards

(The following are more for me to keep track than for you… obviously you don’t really care how much I workout each weekend.)

Thursday’s workout:  1 mile run before early morning body pump

Friday’s workout:  6 mile run, 52.5 minutes

Saturday’s workout:  4 mile run, 35 minutes plus 3+ mile walk with mi madre

(ended with  27  miles run this week)

Sunday’s workout: 5 mile run, 39.5 minutes

My weekend workouts were less than impressive, but I’m calling it a win that I even made it to the gym both days.  I’m normally a morning workout-er, especially on the weekends (and  by morning, I mean before noon), but we had so many errands and stuff, that the fave and I didn’t even get to the gym before 5 both days, so because I went (despite not really wanting to), I was rewarded with margherita pizza last night.

I know, good food choice Kathleen.

I did not do much of anything this weekend.  I watched a lot of Breaking Bad, did a lot of eating and a loooooooooooot of lamination cutting.

My mom came in town for a wedding Friday night, so Saturday morning we took advantage of the beautiful weather to walk around the neighborhood.  We spent the majority of the morning looking for used book stores that doesn’t specialize in old or weird books, but after 5 failed attempts, we decided it was time to call it quits.  3 of the 5 we went to were closed, and the other two were just… different.

I did find a place where I can buy all my witchcraft books though.  Time to get out those magic cards from 6th grade.

magic books

Sunday was spent running errands… mainly at the outlets in Williamsburg.  So, not really errands per say,  but shopping happened.

I also spent much time cutting out my cute little laminated ABC and color people that finally came in last week.   They’re all really, really cute (at least I think so), except for this one.

The th sound:

th 2 things that bother me about this:

  • The thumb is super creepy.  Couldn’t they have chosen something else?
  • Why is his stomach showing?  None of the other kids are showing their midsection.  Everyone else is properly covered.  I don’t want my kids to think this is okay and come to school in shirts like I wore in college.

That’s going to bother me all year.

Time to start another week!  Crossing my fingers that all my Vitamin C supplementing will keep the colds at bay!

Do you have anything fun going on this week?

We have half day Wednesday… I mean, the kids leave early and I still have to work all afternoon, but at least it’s switched up a little bit!

Three Things Thursday

Wednesday’s workout:  5 mile outdoor run… and although my legs were not feeling it at all (again), it was perfect outside running weather!  One of those perfect afternoons when you realize how lucky you are to run, even though it sometimes is not easy… 🙂

1.  There once was a little girl named Kathleen.  She had enormous brown crossed eyes and wore inch-thick glasses until she threw them away in 2nd grade.  (I’m actually sorry I don’t have a picture to show you to prove how large those glasses were.)

This is little Kathleen’s new best friend.

Sorry, Derby.  Spangles the cross-eyed, pirate loving cat has replaced you.

2.  I love these kids.  I wish my kids would pop out with an English accent.

3.  Breaking news…

Lady Gaga wore another meat outfit.  (<—weird sentence to type)

Question:  Is it made of actual meat or does it just look like meat?

Question:  If it is made of actual meat, what happens when she walks by a dog, or jumps into the ocean?  Do sharks attack?

Question:  Does it smell?

So many questions about Lady Gaga’s meat corset.   I need as many answers as possible.

License Plate Wednesday

Tuesday’s workout:  A slow, second- counting 5 miles.  I honestly think I counted every second of this run.  I would start over every 30…. let’s just say it was pathetic.   My body was not feeling it and neither were my legs, and I found out that Guys with Kids isn’t as funny as you might think.

So here are some license plates I’ve seen over the past month.  There’s something for everyone.

Here’s another for the cat lovers out there.

Sept.19,12 hot cat

There’s some for the sports fans, including all those Redskins fans.

sept.19,12 2fedex

Here’s one for the only Packers fan I know.

Sept.19,12 pkrfn21

And one for all my Indiana loving friends.

Sept.19,12 hoosrs

There are a couple for people who like giving their cars funny little nicknames that really aren’t that funny.

Sept.19,12 icberg Sept.19,12 1edgy

Some that everyone should definitely stay away from…

Sept.19,12 Izombie

Sept.19,12 machete

And one just because I like it.

Sept.19,12 ohellno

That’s all for now.

Why oh why do I find these so amusing??

Prosciutto, Asparagus, and Parmesan Spaghetti

Monday’s workout:  6 mile run after school

I am calling it a win that I even got to the gym yesterday.  It’s that time of year when I get my first cold, and I was definitely not feeling great.  I woke up yesterday with a scratchy throat, and throughout the day I started coughing, snotting, sneezing… It was not pretty.

A perk to not feeling well… someone else volunteers to make dinner.  Yes, please!

I found this recipe on Pinterest and it was delicious.  The only think we changed was instead of a full 1 1/4 cup of heavy cream, we did half heavy cream and half plain greek yogurt.  Way to stay healthy.

Prosciutto, Asparagus, and Parmesan Spaghetti

(from ValSoCal)

  • 8 oz angel hair pasta
  • olive oil
  • 2 garlic cloves
  • 1 small onion, diced
  • 2 cups sliced mushrooms
  • 4 oz prosciutto, cut in strips
  • 1 lb asparagus, cut in 1 inch strips
  • 1 1/4 heavy cream
  • 1/3 cup grated parmesan cheese
  • salt and pepper
  • 1/2 cup red pepper flakes

1.  Cook pasta, drain, and put back into pot.

2.  Meanwhile, heat oil in large pan over medium high heat.  Cook onion, garlic, and mushrooms until semi done.  Add prosciutto and asparagus, and cook a few more minutes.  Add cream, cheese, salt and pepper, and red pepper flakes; reduce heat and simmer about 4 minutes.

3.  Combine sauce and pasta and mix to coat.  If you want, add more cheese and serve!

I stole her picture because I was too drugged up on dayquil to remember to take my own.

Am I the only one with a summer cold?

JMU- WVU Game

Thursday’s workout:  3 mile run, 30 minutes on the elliptical, abs

Friday’s workout:  4.5 mile run… ended the week with 26 miles.  Less mileage than previous weeks but not terrible.

Friday night the fave and I headed up to DC for the JMU- West Virginia football game on Saturday afternoon.

I love tailgating.  LOVE it.  Unfortunately there’s nothing to really tailgate for on a regular basis in Richmond… so if we have to drive hours to watch JMU get killed as an excuse to sit in a parking lot and drink beer, it’s happening.

Such a fun day tailgating with friends, food, beers, and a horse head.   The game definitely wasn’t anything to write home about, but that was expected.

Now, it’s off for another full week in first grade… plus, after taking 2 days off, it’s back to working out.  Sounds busy.

What did you do this weekend?

Three Things Thursday

Tuesday’s workout:  3 mile run, early morning body pump class

Wednesday’s workout:  6 mile early morning run

I’ve been waking up at ohhhhhhhhhh around 4am lately for no reason and soooooooo right now I’m pretty tired.  If I don’t make sense, that’s why.

1.  I love when I get emails from my friends that include, “for the blog?” Being sent funny things makes it way easier to write when you’re barely awake.

Who ate all the sausages???

article-2201029-14F03BE6000005DC-996_634x475[1]

Obie did.

This poor little puppy is 77lbs.  SEVENTY-SEVEN POUNDS.   He can barely walk, which, for some reason, makes me love him a lot.

2.  Something I didn’t see coming, but I kind of like:

Don’t shoot me, but I don’t really see the attraction to Blake Lively… but it’s Ryan Reynolds’ life, not mine.  They seem like nice people, so good for them.  Here’s to a life full of Hollywood happiness.

Also, they had a secret wedding… but they invited People magazine?  That seems normal.

3.  And just because I’m exhausted.   And because it’s not Friday yet.

Funny Workplace Ecard: When work feels overwhelming, remember that you're going to die.

Is anyone else’s week moving as slow as mine?

I’ve had 2 extra ‘trainings’ already this week (including a 3 hour nighttime one for people who don’t know how to use computers—little do they know I’m a blogger, duh) and I’m spent.
