Back to the grind

Well, just as I’ve been getting back into the swing of work, I’ve also been getting back into the swing of doing physical activity.  On vacation I did do some running and had a few light workouts, but they did nothing to combat the 5,000 calories I was stuffing in my face everyday.   (Literally at LEAST 5,000.  Plus I was carrying around a bag of candy that I couldn’t stop eating.)

On that card I also need to add ‘…and alcohol.’

I’m pretty sure my body was not impressed with the insane amount of wine I drank, the hot dog, the burgerS, the fries, the pasta (with potatoes),  the pizza (a “slice”, if you will), the bread, the burrito and chips and beans, the beers and the 870 Runts and Swedish Fish I ate this past weekend.  Oh and the pack of sunflower seeds on the drive home.  Hey salt.  Vacation, right?

So, back home and back to regular workouts.  Ugh.

Monday I tried to do the daily double workout- I got up and ran 3 miles in the morning before work, and after work, I ran a mile to the gym and did 40 minutes on the elliptical.

  • Pros:  I worked out twice.  I realized I can get up at 6:21, run 3 miles and still be able to shower AND make breakfast before leaving at 7:35.
  • Cons:  Two sets of dirty clothes.  Two sets of dirty socks…which I seem to run out of all the time.  Plus, ain’t no way I’m doing this consistently.

Tuesday I had planned on trying to see if I could push my limits and get up at 6:32 and run 2 miles before work and still leave by 7:35.  But then I fell back to sleep until 7.  So it didn’t happen.  When I got to the gym after school, I realized that I accidentally gave the fave my headphones yesterday and never got them back. I almost left…and then I reminded myself of the 8lbs of salt I ate on Friday night and ran a tough 6 miles in 48 minutes.  How in the hell do people run faster than that without their legs falling off?  I was so bored on the treadmill that I just kept playing with the speed and ran between 7.0-8.6… guess that was a good thing.

  • Pros:  I actually worked out without music or Jack Bauer.  I did a fast 6 miles.
  • Cons:  I actually worked out without music or Jack Bauer.  I also nipped out so bad I had to leave early.

Today I’m planning on going to spin (for the first time in MONTHS) so hopefully my PiC won’t ditch me this week—since I’m no longer able to attend group fitness classes alone.

It’s pathetic, really.

How long does it take for you to get back into the swing of healthy living after taking a few (or more) days off?

  1. I’m doing double workouts after a vacation snarf-fest myself. Ugh. So hard to get back on the wagon. Oh, and man your hotel was amazing. Still a little jealous of the Daniel Tosh thing. ❤ ❤

    • Oh Tosh. So hilarious. I wish I knew him in real life.
I think I’m going to try and do double workouts on Mondays… how long do you think that will actually last? 🙂

      • LOL – Or the question really is, will it start? 🙂 Seriously, try it out. I’m already seeing results from doing it for a week. So I’m gonna keep it up for a couple more weeks to give myself a good kick in the butt.

  2. I do what you are doing-sweat it all out. All the grease, alcohol, and sugar. Then I eat nothing but raw fruits and veggies to try and reset my body. Good job on the double workouts!

That card is so true and I agree alcohol needs to be added on there.
